Nursing. There are so many different fields that you could go into, that don’t necessarily involve patient care, if you are not really keep on the gross part of it. You could be a radiology nurse, school nurse, educator, so many options. Bottom line is they all pay really well.

What is the difference between a Career Diploma and a certification?
Question by Crystal A: What is the difference between a Career Diploma and a certification?
Looking at online courses and they offer both. Career Diploma tends to cost more and maybe even take longer but will an employer look at that as much as a certification?
I can’t afford to just get a degree, I have tried all avenues and I think at least trying to get a IT certification/We Design will at least get me in the door and go from there.
Best answer:
Answer by aomiles619
Depends on what area of study. Certifications are widely regarded as the norm when it comes to IT work, but not so well in other areas.
Also, be wary of online programs. Here is an FTC article warning of the dangers of same fake online diploma mills:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/diplomamills.shtm
As to getting an IT degree – make sure you go to a place with a good reputation. Other than that, a cert in IT is a great career move. I know several friends who have done that and they now have great jobs that they enjoy and are making enough money to live very comfortably. Good Luck

Career ideas for creative people who want to do something worthwhile?
Question by Thigim: Career ideas for creative people who want to do something worthwhile?
I am trying to decide on a college major and all I know is that I am creative and have strong writing skills but do not enjoy writing very much. I wanted to go into marketing, but I just have a gut feeling that I’ll be doing more harm than good in that career field but I think I would be fairly good at it.

Hey, man…I’m in the same exact boat as you, although I enjoy writing a little more, it seems. I have also been trying extensively to think outside the box when it comes to future occupations. My interests are far too expansive to settle on ONE job which encompasses only a small fraction of who I am and what I am interested in (which includes sociology and philosophy, politics, Russian and German language, international affairs, technology and gadgets, and travel). I would definitely enjoy, myself, having what they call a “blue sky thinker” position for some type of product development firm (Google, Sony, Pepsi, etc.), where I would just be in charge of spewing my thoughts to designers, but I think that getting this position is by luck and you must know the right people. If you like to travel, I recently checked out the Fodors Travel Guides website and saw that you can work for them by living abroad in the place which you are reviewing, and you only need to send a resumee, sample of your writing (of which I’m sure you are already high qualified), and your other qualifications. I also thought about being an entrepreneur, opening some type of fusion chain (perhaps specialty cuisine, some type of new social meeting place/bar, etc.), and also just being a damned good bartender, as I love socializing. You mentioned doing something “worthwhile”…I’m not sure what your definition of “worthwhile” is, and I hesitate to answer this segment of your question myself as I am very prone to be negative with respect to any type of worth in life (as we will all die in the end, etc.)…but, you could, perhaps, go to a Liberal Arts college to double-major/major and minor in Philosophy and Sociology/Politics and become a politician whose roots stem from that which is logical and not that which is biased. I also thought about becoming a passenger jet liner pilot, just for the travel and thrill, but I don’t know if I am up to flight training and being so responsible for so many other lives. There are many choices – you could e-mail me if you like and we could discuss more, but I think I can only urge you to keep searching until you find something that you don’t question, and THAT will be what will become the most satisfying occupation that you won’t regret having. Good luck!

What’s the difference between educational goals and career goals?
Question by london: What’s the difference between educational goals and career goals?
This class I’m in has to do with students interested in going to graduate schools, medical schools or any type of profession school after we graduate from college.
The teacher told us to make 2 lists: one list is our educational goals, 2nd list is our career goals.
I just don’t know the difference between the two.
I know that career goals could be something like: 1. Graduate from school. 2. Obtain my Bachelor’s degree. 3. Get good grades.
I need examples of both.
Best answer:
Answer by Jeanne B
London,
You’ve got the educational goals down, if a bit simply, but you’ve got a good start. To add more would be to plan your way through school. Are you in middle school now? I’ll assume that for this. So if you wanted to be a psychologist, you would want to plan to take classes that help you with that. In high school, some schools teach psychology. So you would plan to take psychology.
Perhaps you want to specialize in pyromaniacs (fire starters). So you would want to take chemistry, to understand what a pyromainic might be using to start fires. You look through a catalog and see some other classes that might help, so you put those on your plan, too.
Your high school plan will also include all the math, social science, government, and other required classes -and doing well in them so you can get admitted to Harvard, or Berkeley, or where ever you choose.
So, you’re planning for college now. The next step is to sit down with a counselor at the Psychology Department to plan for your Bachelor’s Degree. Next will be your Master’s Degree, and a Ph.D. Each degree you would plan to specialize further, and list those on your Educational Plan. You would plan for how many years this will take you, and when you will graduate.
CAREER GOALS
This is the time you will be working. You decide whether you’ll be diagnosing the pyromanics for government purposes (sending them to a mental health hospital, going to prison, deciding if they are safe to release back into the public) and for the attorneys who represent them. You could plan to work in a clinical setting like a hospital, your own office, or with other psychologists or doctors as a group.
If you plan to occasionally testify in court as an expert in pyromanics, you’ll want to include public speaking in your education. So career goals have to do with just what you’d do once you’re working. As a doctor you could specialize in all kinds of things for a career, and this is true for many jobs. I hope this helps you.

How do I start a music career and go to school ?
Question by Dymond: How do I start a music career and go to school ?
Ok , I’m 14 and live in Manhattan .. I want to become a singer and start recording music, promotions, work on my demo, photo shoots stuff like that .. but school is in my way , I’m a freshman and I am in my schools Drum Corp so I know how to play the drums .. so how can I get my music career starting any advice .. tips , suggestions?
Does anyone know any good vocal coach in Manhattan ? and Recording studios ?
Best answer:
Answer by mamianka
If you live in Manhattan, and have to ask on Yahoo – then you are truly lost. Start with SCHOOL – ask yout teachers there for a referral for a good private voice teacher. There is almost NO connection between being in Drum Corps and being a singer – but your teachers may know a good voice teacher. It sound like you have WAY more dreams than you do education and experience – so get to work on the EDUCATION part – then comes the experience. Plan to get into the best COLLEGE program you can, and once you are well-educated an experienced, then you can see about opening some doors. IN Manhattan, you have a big plus and a big minus – EVERYTHING yo need is there – and so is all the COMPETITION in the world – with more already-fabulous people arriving every day – and thousands of wannabees. I wish you much luck – but you have given us no indication of SKILLS in your post, only desire.
