How much of a salary increase should you ask for after graduating college with your Bachelor’s degree?
Question by ChiTownSmarty: How much of a salary increase should you ask for after graduating college with your Bachelor’s degree?
I’ve been with my company six years now and my last significant raise was a year and a half ago. I finished my degree a month ago and more responsibility was given to me but no mention of a raise. I got a salary report that says I should make 50% than what I am making but it doesn’t quite seem realistic.

You’re better off looking for a new job because after 6 years you’re probably working well above your pay and have without disputing it becase you knew without a degree there was not much you could say since they could throw it in your face that you dont have a degree yet. At least my experience it was. I graduated thinking I’d get a killer raise like you, but got offered a big 50 cents an hour and an extra paid vacation day. Told them no thanks.
Go ahead and ask to see where you stand with them on the money scale but don’t be afraid to go find something else. 6 years experience and a degree could be worth more plenty of places. Who knows, they may surprise you but you wont know until you ask and prove your case why you deserve it.
Tell them something along the lines of “I’ve worked for 6 years, worked hard and feel i’ve had responsibility above my pay, without hesitation I’ve handled it well. At the same time I’ve earned a degree and would like to remain here. I do like working here as well as with the people I work. I also would like to start a new life after school, looking for a new place to live and build a career, a fresh start of sorts. I feel it starts with an increase in pay therefore I’m asking for a raise”. Be confident in your request but not confrontational.
